Arrowtown 150th anniversary organising committee secretary Julie Hughes said the re-enactment, to be part of celebrations in October next year, would be similar to those held for the 100th and 125th anniversaries, with thousands of spectators expected to line the river banks.
The re-enactment will start from William Fox's discovery of gold in 1862 and run through to the gold rush, with wagons and carts and a town "springing up"on the river bank.
Ms Hughes said the "little historic theatre" would run according to the last re-enactment, in 1986, and would be planned down to the minute.
As well as the re-enactment, there was plenty for potential for volunteers to get involved, and anyone wanting to do so should come to tomorrow's community get-together.
"Really, people can be involved as much as they like or just take on a very small part.
We just want people to get in behind it and take part, and the more people we have, the better, and the more fun it will be," Ms Hughes said.
Also included among activities in the draft four-day programme are Chinese miners' village performances, a 150th anniversary ball, jazz on the green, a goldminers' dance and a mock trial.
The community get-together will be held at 7.30pm tomorrow, at the Arrowtown Brewery.
