The inaugural Drive New Zealand Classic Track Tour is coming to Queenstown this spring.
The Queenstown Lakes District Council utilities committee granted event organisers permission to close Coronet Peak Rd and the Crown Range Rd on October 18 as 50 classic cars roll into the resort.
The tour starts on October 8 in Auckland and will cover more than 5500km over 17 days.
It is a tour of both islands of New Zealand, visiting all certified race tracks.
The organiser's application to the council says the main focus of the event was to create a nostalgic experience taking advantage of New Zealand's traffic-free roads and scenery in the spring, when the landscape was at its most impressive.
Several scenic roads had been selected to "build on the sensory experience" as closed road stages.
Sections of road closed on October 18 are Coronet Peak Rd from the Arthurs Point Rd/Malaghans Rd intersection to the Coronet Peak Skifield, which will be closed from 10.30am to 12.30pm, and Crown Range Rd from Eastburn Rd to Cardrona Valley Rd, which will be closed from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.
