The Accor Extreme Challenge to Cure Kids Fiji involves 35 pairs of Accor staff from across the Asia Pacific region, plus several Fijian teams, in a race around a secret location in Fiji.
From August 28 to August 31, teams will swim, kayak, run and conduct other physical and mental challenges, culminating with their revamp of the Nadi Hospital's maternity ward.
Up to 10 Accor staff from the Wakatipu have entered the challenge - two teams from Novotel Queenstown Lakeside and teams from Hotel St Moritz, Sofitel Queenstown Hotel and Spa and Mercure Queenstown Resort.
The hotel group has helped Cure Kids in the past few years by providing new equipment for the neonatal and paediatric intensive-care units at Lautoka Hospital, plus annual visits by paediatric kidney specialists and funds towards a rheumatic heart disease control and prevention programme run by the World Heart Federation.
Novotel general manager Jim Moore said each team had to raise $5000 to enter.
"There are a lot of Queenstown people [who] enjoy Fiji and the beautiful Fijian people.
"They may or may not realise how grim the local hospitals are unless they have used them.
"The Nadi Hospital is the one that we are going to support this time around."

Supporters can bid on Trade Me for a luxury trip to Thailand, a Sony television, a queen-sized bed, a Franz Josef Glacier package, three nights at any Wyndham resort, accommodation in Rotorua, Melbourne and Auckland, plus a golfing package including a round of golf with Greg Turner at Millbrook.
The Trade Me auction runs from August 9 to 16.
