Dancing children, funky floats and delicious doughnuts will be on offer in Wanaka on Saturday afternoon as Kahu Youth and Wanaka police bring a festive flavour to the end of winter.
Kahu Youth is running Wanaka's street parade this year after the trust that usually organises the annual spring festival, Wanakafest, decided to take a break for a year to concentrate on fundraising.
Kahu Youth co-ordinator Tarn Felton said the parade had attracted strong support, but it would not be as big as in previous years, with 19 floats entered.
However, the usual vibrant atmosphere could be expected, as a big group of dancers from Dance Wanaka would be involved, and local businesses, schools and clubs were building some "funky" floats.
The parade will begin at 4pm at Cinema Paradiso and will proceed down Ardmore St to the skatepark.
The parade route will be closed to traffic between 4pm and 4.45pm.
At the conclusion of the parade, the Wanaka police will run a doughnut-eating competition and there will also be live music and other entertainment such as egg and spoon races.
