Police are calling for public assistance in tracking two men who boarded TSS Earnslaw at Queenstown Wharf early on Sunday morning and threw a flotation ring and bread crate into Lake Wakatipu.

Sergeant Linda Stevens, of Queenstown, said the pair were captured on CCTV at 2.30am and anyone with information should contact the station on (03) 441-1600.

• A 19-year-old Australian tourist has been charged with careless driving after being in a collision with another car while driving down the Coronet Peak access road on Tuesday afternoon.

Sgt Stevens said it appeared the man skidded on gravel and hit the other car.

Sgt Stevens said both vehicles were damaged enough to requiring towing, but no injuries were reported.
