A 26-year-old Dutch tour guide living in Queenstown was yesterday convicted of dangerous driving, disqualified from driving for seven months and ordered to pay reparations of $2691.15, in the Queenstown District Court.
Wietske van der Werff, an employee at Glenorchy's Horse Trek Queenstown, was driving towards Queenstown on Thursday, August 23 at 6pm, when she approached a blind corner too fast and lost control, crossing the centre line.
She collided with an oncoming car, which was forced off a bank and on to the shore of Lake Wakatipu, police prosecutor Sergeant Ian Collin said.
Judge Kevin Phillips said had there been an injury, she would have received a jail sentence.
