Dog bite brings fine for owner

A Queenstown dog owner has been fined $200 after a German shepherd bit a female runner on Wednesday morning.

The dog has now been given a ''menacing dog'' classification by Lakes Environmental, meaning it must be muzzled any time it leaves the Arthurs Point property, regulatory and corporate manager Lee Webster said.

The Queenstown police were called to McChesney Rd about 9.30am, after the runner had been bitten on the back of her thigh and required medical attention at the Lakes District Hospital.

Mr Webster said the dog had a history of wandering in the neighbourhood and was unrestrained that morning.
