As part of a new excursion being launched by Real Journeys on November 1, cyclists will be able to explore the tussock wilderness between Walter Peak Farm and the Mavora Lakes.
Tourism specialist Real Journeys is offering a guided excursion and an independent "freedom" option for the thrill-seeking customers, says Tracey Maclaren, Real Journeys general manager Queenstown.
"The freedom option may suit Queenstown people more and the guided option will give tourists a chance to cycle at a more relaxed pace," she said.
The experience starts with a cruise on board TSS Earnslaw across Lake Wakatipu.
Cyclists are then transported by van to the start of the back country cycling tracks.
The tracks on the back road beside Lake Wakatipu offers a 15km route and a 35km route that pass through the natural beauty of the Von Valley.
"I've cycled the high country myself before and it really is an amazing experience," Mrs Maclaren says.
Guided cyclists will have the opportunity to learn about the flora and fauna as part of the package.
Stops will be made at a traditional musterer's hut for a picnic lunch and at the old heritage building, Old Nic.
Ending the journey, group cyclists will visit the Colonel's Homestead and gardens before cruising back across the Lake, aboard Earnslaw at 5.30pm.
"I think the end of the day will really be the most memorable part of the trip - people can relax in the sun knowing they just achieved something great," Mrs Maclaren says.
Independent cyclists will be given a route map and food vouchers and will have the chance to return to Queenstown on a later Earnslaw crossing.
The guided cycling tour will continue to run departures until April 15 next year.
