Lyal Cocks, of Wanaka, was elected her deputy.
About 50 friends, family and council staff gathered at the Lake Hayes Pavilion to support the elected members as they took their oaths.
QLDC chief executive Debra Lawson encouraged the council to create a lasting legacy over the next three years.
"Public service, I believe, is something that we have enormous privilege in being involved in.
"I urge you to be forward-thinking and create a legacy ... that will last on."
Ngai Tahu kaumatua Michael Skerrett blessed the new council and urged Ms van Uden to stay strong, even though she would have to face up to many waves, as did a rock standing in the ocean..
Ms van Uden nominated Mr Cocks as her deputy, in accordance with "past practice and tradition".
"He is the highest polling Wanaka councillor and I think it's very important we have that position filled by someone from Wanaka."
The nomination was seconded by Leigh Overton, also of Wanaka, and adopted unanimously.
The first ordinary meeting of the QLDC will be held on November 6 at the council's Queenstown chambers.
