Construction of six buildings behind the Arrowtown Post Office is due to be completed in two weeks and already three of the six tenancies have been taken up.
The Queenstown Times understands one of the leaseholders are Auckland-based bar owners who plan to open a cocktail bar in the town.
Arrowtown, which has a population of about 2500, has 21 cafes, bars and eateries between Arrow Lane, Buckingham St and Ramshaw Lane, of which more than 10 hold liquor licences.
Last weekend, Queenstown Events Management moved in to its new Arrowtown office.
A real estate agency is also to be built.
Construction began in September, with five to six Cook Brothers Construction workers on site at any time.
The site has 500sq m of floor space behind the historic post office and Postmasters Restaurant.
The complex covers two levels off Arrow Lane and Wiltshire St - the bar is believed to be planned for the bottom floor.
The developer, Bush Creek Investments Ltd director Chris James, did not wish to comment on who had taken up the six tenancies.
The company also owns an industrial site on Bush Creek Rd heading towards Butel Park.
