About 240 people braved occasional showers at the Kelvin Peninsula course to play matches on Friday and Saturday, and celebrations ended yesterday with a mixed Canadian foursomes tournament, barbecue dinner and prizegiving for more than 200 people.
The celebration also marked 40 years at the club's present site. Beginning in 1915 as the Wakatipu Golf Club, it was twice forced to move to new sites on the Frankton Flats before shifting to the peninsula in 1975.
Stalwart members Gordon McKeich and David Davenport said they looked back with satisfaction on what had been achieved over the decades, and were ''pleased we're still here'' to enjoy it.
Past president and former club champion Mr Davenport _ a member since 1975 _ said the centenary was particularly meaningful for older members, who had developed the course from scratch with limited funds, hours of voluntary work and a ''very good club spirit''.
