Show producer Simon Green told pupils the show would be ''bigger than it's ever been'' because of a new outdoors location.
Having the show at the Queenstown Recreation Ground, rather than the Queenstown Events Centre, would accommodate the increasing number of people attending and allow for food stalls and bouncy castles, Mr Green said.
The popular show is now in its seventh year. Queenstown school children were being encouraged to write a wish on a specially made decoration to benefit someone else and hang it on one of the Christmas trees in Queenstown.
''What we would like you to do is have a think about someone else this Christmas to make their Christmas a much happier day,'' Mr Green told pupils on Monday.
Past wish grants included a family holiday in the Catlins, ''a full house-clean for mum'' and new toys for the Queenstown Toy Library.
The Christmas Cracker will be held on Saturday, December 14. Trees on which to hang wishes will be installed from November 25-December 11.
