More than 50 Queenstown primary school children are preparing to take the stage on Friday in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, produced by the Kate Moetaua School of Drama.

The play is directed by Kate Moetaua and Lisa Moore, but Mrs Moetaua's senior drama students have also been working behind the scenes, doing make-up, costumes, lighting and sound, and helping direct some scenes.

"With that many children taking part it always feels like chaos, but past experience tells me it will come together beautifully on the night," Mrs Moetaua said."

While children had been rehearsing, several mothers had been helping produce costumes for the C.S. Lewis story.

"One brought her sewing machine to the rehearsal and sat in the corner sewing brown fur for the beavers all day, while another made mouse tails.

"The costumes are a big part of this production and they look amazing."

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe will be staged at the City Impact Church on Friday and Saturday night, with tickets costing $15 for adults and $6 for children aged between 5 and 13.

Children under the age of 5 are free.

"The ticket price is a little higher than last year because we had to pay rights not only to the author, C.S. Lewis' estate, but also to Erina Caradus, from Dunedin, who adapted the script for the stage," Mrs Moetaua said.

• Tickets are available from Refuel in Gorge Rd or can be bought on the night.
