Car and two motorcycles in crash

A Wanaka motorcyclist received a dislocated shoulder and a Taranaki motorist was treated for a hip injury and severe bruising after a collision at Devils Staircase, north of Kingston, yesterday.

The 47-year old man, riding a Ducati Corse (inset), and his associate, riding a Triumph, were travelling south on State Highway 6 at the Devils Staircase just before 2.30pm.

They were thought to be heading for a motorcycle event in Invercargill.

The 65-year-old Taranaki woman, driving a rented 1996 Nissan Primera (above right), was heading north with her daughter.

Queenstown police constable Brian Fitzpatrick said the Ducati hit the right front of the Nissan and the rider fell off the motorbike.

"The other motorcyclist hit the side of the Nissan to avoid collision and fell off as well. The second rider was uninjured. It is believed both motorcyclists were in their lane when the incident took place."

Two St John Wakatipu ambulances transported the patients to Lakes District Hospital and the injured motorcyclist was transferred to Southland Hospital, Invercargill.
