A tandem-diving company which began with three staff members in a paddock at Jardine's farm, near Queenstown, celebrates its 20th anniversary this month, coinciding with rave reviews from independent trip advisers.

NZONE Skydive became the first commercial tandem skydive operation in New Zealand when it was established by co-owners Robynne and Lindsay Williams, in October 1990.

Two decades later, the award-winning company has 40 fulltime skydivers working at drop zones in Queenstown and Rotorua and more than 170,000 satisfied customers.

Business development manager Derek Melnick said yesterday the timing of the milestone tied in with the ranking of NZONE Skydive as the "most popular activity in Queenstown", above 65 other activities reviewed by independent consumer feedback website tripadvisor.com.

The operator was also named top rated experience in Queenstown and top skydive company in New Zealand by travellers who posted their comments on rankers.co.nz.

The New Zealand Tourism Industry Association 2007 supreme award winner was also the first New Zealand skydive company to be awarded a Qualmark endorsement.

Mr Melnick said the operator would host a party for more than 300 front-line agents and tourism industry representatives as "a thank you" at Revolver in early December.

Community support continued with its sponsorship of the Jumpstart and youth competitions during the ASB Queenstown JazzFest between October 21 and 25.
