AJ Hackett Bungy has resurrected plans to establish a commercial bungy jump in a valley behind Queenstown Hill.

A resource application has been lodged with the Queenstown Lakes District Council by Hat Ltd for a certificate of compliance for the proposed activity, which was approved in June 2008.

The certificate for the original jump had lapsed.

''Hat Ltd now proposes to establish the bungy jump on the site. Accordingly, [the company] seeks that a new certificate of compliance be issued.''

The Companies Office lists Hat directors as Henry van Asch, Andrew Brinsley, Michael Davies and John Ward.

In a statement to the Otago Daily Times, the company said the certificate was being renewed to provide it with an option to cater to ''possible future demand in the tourism market''.

There was no timeline for construction or opening.

The site behind Queenstown Hill had formerly been the location of the Fly By Wire operation, which closed in 2008.

The facility would comprise four 700m-long steel ''support cables'' suspended in an X shape across the valley at a maximum height of 202m.

Two bungy ''cars'' would run up and down pairs of guide cables.

Jumpers would enter a car with a jumpmaster where they would be connected to a bungy cord fixed to the base of the car.

The car would ascend to the jumper's selected height - from between 40m and 185m. The application said no indigenous vegetation would be removed and lighting would be directed away from adjoining sites and roads.

Construction of landing areas and tracks would require no earthworks.

Earthworks required to construct cable anchor points and other structural components would not exceed 300cu m.

The site was zoned rural general.

The proposal did not fall within any descriptions of prohibited, non-complying, discretionary or controlled activities, or breach any site, zone or standard and was, therefore, a permitted activity, the application said.
