Big crowds behave well

Queenstown police have praised organisers of the Glenorchy races and the National Rugby Sevens for "very well-behaved" crowds at the weekend.

Sergeant Brian Cameron, of Queenstown, said large crowds attended both events.

"With the races, I think the type of people that travel from quite far away just aren't in town to cause trouble. They aren't the sort of people who loiter around with nothing to do," he said.

About 2500 people attended the races. No incidents were reported there or on the roads.

The National Rugby Sevens tournament in Queenstown drew 4000 people on Saturday and close to 5000 for yesterday's finals.

"Nothing really happening at the Sevens isn't all that unusual. It does attract a party atmosphere, but we have so many events in Queenstown, it's just another event for people to come here and enjoy."
