Tomorrow night, the 2010 42Below Cocktail World Cup champions will be announced in Wellington, after an action-packed week of adventure, adrenalin and uniquely Queenstown challenges.

Twenty-four of the world's best bartenders, making up eight teams from New Zealand, Australia, the United States, France, Italy, Ireland, Belfast and London, arrived in the resort on Monday and began their time in Queenstown with a bungy jump.

This was the sixth year the Cocktail World Cup had been held and it stayed true to its theme of "Love, Drinks and Rock 'n' Roll Baby".

On Tuesday, the action centred on the Shotover River as teams prepared modern mocktails from provided ingredients. They had seven minutes to design and name their drinks, before taking it on the Shotover River in a Shotover Jet boat to mix, pour and present.

Team Australia emerged the clear winner with its Peach, Plum, Rock 'n Pop drink.

The second major challenge was to put a unique twist on a classic, popular drink - punch.

The 21st-century punch challenge was one of the most fiercely contested during the week. The United States team walked away with the win for its 42 and Cloudy creation, served in a hollowed-out passionfruit.

After a rock-star party on Tuesday night, two bold members of the Irish team - one of them an Italian - braved the JagAir aerobatics trip over the Remarkables, before rejoining the other teams for the third challenge, ready, steady, shake.

Teams were given a set of mystery ingredients and had seven minutes to create and make a cocktail.

Three teams were separated by less than half a point and the New Zealand team won with its creation, It's 42bro.

After celebrating its last night in Queenstown with 42Below founder Geoff Ross, the convoy left the resort yesterday bound for Wellington, where the Love, Drinks and Rock 'n Roll competition will finish in style with teams performing alongside New Zealand rock band Midnight Youth.
