Queenstown and Wanaka back country areas remain at high risk of avalanches and skiers and boarders should not venture beyond skifields' boundaries.
Remarkables ski area manager Ross Lawrence said ski patrol staff had been carrying out controlled blasts within the skifield boundary to make sure it was safe.
A grade two avalanche was triggered in a controlled operation on Wednesday, he said.
The snow travelled further than expected into a safe zone.
"One of the patrollers got caught in a controlled avalanche. He wasn't in it but on it. He rode it for about 70m," he said.
The patrollers were continuing control work with helicopters to make sure all areas within the skifield were safe before skiers and boarders arrived at 9am.
"There are no problems in the skifield but out of bounds we prefer people not to go there," he said.
The Mountain Safety Council is continuing to issue high level risk warnings for back country areas and warning snow enthusiasts to stay away.
Strong northwest winds had created weaknesses and large avalanches continued to be initiated by light loads, the warning says.
Queenstown snowboarder Ryan Campbell (30) was killed in an avalanche while skiing on slopes near the Coronet Peak skifield last weekend.
