The father of Queenstown assault victim Sam Ross says he is starting to become increasingly worried about violent crime in the resort.
His 30-year-old son had his jaw broken in two places during an assault early on Saturday in the central business district.
"It was a very serious assault. It could have easily been homicide given what happened," Tony Ross said from Dunedin Hospital yesterday.
His son, a musician and music teacher, had come through surgery to put his jaw back together with titanium "bits" and he hoped to go home to Queenstown on Wednesday, Mr Ross said.
Mr Ross said his son did not remember the attack and did not want to talk about the incident.
However, Mr Ross was glad the police were "hot" on the issue.
Four Invercargill men ranging in age from 16 to 23 were arrested and charged in relation to the incident.
