Registrations are now open by the Wakatipu branch of the Mountain Safety Council for avalanche awareness and alpine skills courses.
The broad introductory Avalanche Awareness course is targeted at skiers and snowboarders, or climbers, hunters and trampers.
The Back-country Avalanche course is the next step in the development of observation, route-finding and decision-making skills, which are critical for advanced recreation activities in more challenging or remote landscapes, or for those working in the snow industry.
The one and a-half day Avalanche Awareness course is $150 and is likely to be held at the Remarkables ski area five times between June 28 to September 20.
The four-day Back-country Avalanche course is $650, from July 26-30 and September 13-17. Book via the Mountain Safety Council website.
