The mountains moved to the town in Queenstown last night as the 2010 Queenstown Winter Festival entered its final weekend.

This year the Invitational Rail Jam, which is traditionally held separately, was included in the programme.

A makeshift rail was erected on Earnslaw Park, with snow trucked down from the surrounding mountains to create the perfect platform for the star-studded line-up of New Zealand skiers and snowboarders.

Thousands of Friday-night revellers turned out to watch 35 invited freestylers competing on a special purpose-built stair feature.

The line-up included professional rider Nick Hyne, who is a member of the NZSBU Slopestyle Team, and Wanaka professional skier Byron Wells, who wowed the crowd with his 360-degree stunts.

Earlier yesterday, children began the July school holiday celebrations at Alpine Aqualand during the Wild About Water Pool Party.

Dunking, splashing, treasure hunts, hydroslides and music kept the children entertained, while a bombing competition saw some big splashes, and interesting techniques.

At the Memorial Hall in Queenstown last night, hundreds of lovely Queenstown ladies got in early to place their votes for the 2010 Top Bloke.

The Queenstown men, all nominated by local businesses, have been strutting their stuff all week in an effort to take the 2010 title, which will be decided tomorrow night.

Last night, the blokes vied for the Best Personality andMost Photogenic votes, during the Lindauer Top Bloke ladies' cocktail evening.

Festival action today includes the Grabaseat Mountain Mayhem, being held at Coronet Peak from noon and Lindauer Jazz Night at the Skyline Complex from 7.30pm.

Tomorrow's programme includes the Cookie Time Teddy Bears Picnic at the Queenstown Events Centre from 11am.

This year's festival finishes on tomorrow afternoon with the Jim Beam Closing Party at Coronet Peak from 4pm, coinciding with the beginning of night skiing for the 2010 season.
