Airport alliance report release delayed

The public release of the Price-waterhouseCoopers report on the strategic alliance between Queenstown and Auckland airports has been delayed because of last week's Christchurch earthquake.

Queenstown Lakes District Council regulatory and corporate services general manager Roger Taylor said until Tuesday last week the council was "on track" to release the report, which examines the strategic alliance announced in July.

However, the council had "temporarily" become focused on other things, he said.

The alliance resulted in the Queenstown Airport Corporation (QAC) creating and selling a 24.99% new shareholding in the airport to Auckland International Airport Ltd (AIAL) for $27.7 million.

AIAL is seeking to increase its interests to between 30% and 35% and has until June 30 this year to do so.

However, the matter is before the High Court at Christchurch, with Air New Zealand and the Queenstown Community Strategic Asset group lodging separate, but related, applications seeking an injunction and a judicial review.

The defendants have been named as QAC, AIAL, the council and the QAC board of directors.

The hearing has been set down for May.
