The review was ordered by Prime Minister John Key, who is also minister of tourism, in September 2009, after he received a letter from the father of Emily Jordan, the 21-year-old English tourist who drowned during a riverboarding trip in April 2008.
A series of reports on safety in adventure tourism have been produced, overseen by a steering group comprised of representatives from the Department of Labour, Ministry of Transport, Civil Aviation Authority, Tourism Industry Association, Maritime New Zealand, ACC, the Queenstown Lakes District Council, the Department of Conservation and Outdoors New Zealand.
The final report from the Labour Department was handed to Ms Wilkinson on June 10 and she said she would consider the findings before she gave her recommendations.
A spokesperson for Ms Wilkinson said no specific date had yet been set for the discussion of the review in Cabinet, but it was expected to take place once the Prime Minister was back in the country, within the next few weeks.
At the same time, the final report will be made public.
