'Uncharted', a movie in the forthcoming Queenstown Adventure Film Festival, sees daredevils Chuck Berry, Miles Daisher, Shane McConkey and Sol Vallis base jump from two previously un-jumped-from peaks within Milford Sound.
Fifteen movies, in eight sessions, over six days are lined up for the Queenstown Adventure Film Festival which opens at the Queenstown Memorial Hall next Thursday.

Co-director Kirsten Nicholl told the Queenstown Times the programme had been finalised within the last 24 hours for the fourth annual festival of short international action sports, travel, environmental and adventure films.

"Anyone who comes will be inspired and taken on a journey themselves. These films have broad appeal and the longer films go into more depth and allow the audience to get more into the story."

Award-winning longer duration movies will be introduced in two programmes.

"What Makes Them Tick" features 20 Seconds Of Joy, about base jumper and free skiing legend Karina Hollekim; and Kinglines, about climber Chris Sharma, who takes on a 21m arch rising from the Mediterranean Sea.

The programme runs on Monday, August 3, from 8pm.

The second programme, "Global Adventures", plays on Tuesday, August 4, from 8pm.

It features Journey of a Red Fridge, about a Nepalese teenager who works as a porter for tourists to pay for his tuition.

Acopan Tepui - Mountain Of Gods follows intrepid explorers Stefan Glowacz, Kurt Albert and Holger Heuber as they tackle the table mountain in the Amazonian region of Venezuela.

Sliding Liberia follows four young Americans as they travel through the war-torn West African nation of Liberia in search of perfect waves in a social documentary with a difference.

Thursday to Sunday each feature an 8pm screening.

Saturday and Sunday will also include a matinee screening at 3pm, all showing the short films programme.

Tickets range from $17 to $65 and are available from Ticket Direct, Queenstown i-Site Visitors Centre, the Queenstown Events Centre and at the door, subject to availability.
