A high-quality Chinese restaurant has joined the ranks of a private health care provider, a hairdressing salon, a budget chain and an off-licence as tenants in the new block being built in Remarkables Park Town Centre.

Queenstown chef Paul Chai said he intended to launch the Starlight Restaurant in early May, in time to cater for the ski season.

Mr Chai will bring his experience and talent with cuisine from past culinary roles including his role as Head Chef of Me & Mee, at the Hilton Queenstown.

He said moving to Remarkables Park was an easy choice because it focused on the community.

''I am very excited with this new venture and am looking forward to serving my fabulous dishes that I am sure my customers will enjoy as much as I do in creating them.

''Being a professional chef for more than 23 years, I am well travelled and have worked in multinational hotels and restaurants in India, United Arab Emirates and for 13 years in Russia.''

Mr Chai said the opportunity to make people happy was the best thing about being a chef.

''No matter how big your problems are, you still have to eat. I believe that problems seem bigger on an empty stomach; moreover food has a way of cheering us up.

''I also believe that through my experience and my food I can unite people from all walks of life and cultures, when we sit together and eat, we promote better understanding and harmony.''

DNZ retail general manager Roy Stansfield, of Auckland, said the investment property company was pleased to have a chef and restaurant of such quality opening soon.

''Starlight Restaurant is a perfect fit that will complement the excellent range of dining options already at Remarkables Park Town Centre,'' Mr Stansfield said.
