Accidents a reminder to motorists

After a series of minor traffic accidents on Saturday, Queenstown Police issued a timely reminder to motorists to be aware of the winter conditions.

About 5.45pm a motorcycle crashed on State Highway 6 between Frankton and Kingston, near the Devils Staircase.

Sergeant Keith Newell, of Queenstown, said the motorcyclist was able to walk away from the accident without serious injuries.

"The 34-year-old man was from Te Anau. He was on his way to the Brass Monkey Rally in Oturehua in Central Otago," Sgt Newell said.

Earlier in the day, a one-car accident on the Glenorchy Rd left the driver, a 63-year-old Queenstown man, with minor injuries when his car slid into a bank at the side of the road.

Sgt Newell said the man did not need to be admitted to hospital.

In a separate incident on Saturday, a car slid into another car at the corner of York St and Hallenstein St.

No-one was injured.

"Ice had been a factor in all three accidents. It really is important to take extra care and drive to the winter conditions," Sgt Newell said.
