The Pork Pie Charity Run is raising funds for KidsCan while following the route taken by the two lead characters in the movie, Blondini (Kelly Johnson) and John (Tony Barry).
By the time participants reached Wanaka yesterday afternoon, they estimated they had raised close to $200,000.
Two of the participants, Mike Burr and Barb Moyes, of Rotorua, expect to have done 8000km by the time they return home.
Mr Burr said there had been a few ''issues'' with cars on the way south including wheel bearing, windscreen and brake problems.
''It's a lot of effort keeping the older cars on the road.''
All the cars carried ''an array of parts'', he said, and a lot of teamwork was required.
''If you are coming down here to be a solo entry then you are sadly mistaken. You are part of a huge team - a huge family in a nutshell really.''
Mr Burr said the two most frequent comments they got wherever they stopped were, `Go Blondini' or `I used to have one of these'.
''But the one I like to hear most is, `I've actually got one at home I don't know what to do with'.''
Mr Burr has five Minis already and is looking for a sixth.
The Minis will spend an hour in the Octagon in Dunedin from noon today and will pass through Balclutha about 2pm.
KidsCan provides food, clothing, basic health and hygiene items and a head lice eradication programme for more than 90,000 children in 448 low-decile schools.
