Wakatipu High School pupils (from left) Rosie Fea (17), of Queenstown, Deborah Yoon (17), of Lake Hayes Estate, and Emily Kerr (17), Rafael Goettems (17) and Gabby Buchanan (17), all of Queenstown, say they are "excited" and braced for "nightlife encounters" when they sit inside a cage in Queenstown Mall as part of the school's fundraising efforts for World Vision 40 Hour Famine.

Supporters can give by dropping money into a pipe. There will be a separate donation pipe for people who wish to give to the Christchurch earthquake appeal.

The pupils will be in the cage from 6pm today until 10am on Sunday, with nothing more than fruit juice, water, barley-sugar sweets and guitars. Donations will be collected regularly.
