"It's fantastic - it probably still hasn't sunk in," Mr Cohen said yesterday before he left for Australia.
"It's a shame I can't stay longer to celebrate, but it's a dream come true."
Mr Cohen and a virtually all-Australian final table - including three of his friends - played at Skycity Casino on Sunday until about midnight.
The final nine were the last men standing from an original multinational starting field of 119, who battled for a total prize pool of $267,750.
The crowd of about 100 players and fans were buzzing with excitement, Mr Cohen said.
He took the title from Andrew Watson with an ace-high hand over Mr Watson's king-high collection.
"You need a lot of luck. I had a royal flush ... and that propelled me from there.
"I was getting the right cards and I worked hard and it paid dividends."
Mr Cohen flipped a $2 coin from his pocket twice during the final to decide if an opponent was bluffing.
The coin proved correct and is now his lucky talisman.
"The coin didn't let me down. It's the first time I've used it."
Mr Cohen said he had been playing poker for three years, and professionally for 18 months.
He was introduced to the online version of the sport by his brother and a friend.
The Deakin University commerce arts graduate said he was keen to forge a career in poker-playing.
He will compete in the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour Main Event, on the Gold Coast, from August 11 to 15.
"It's a good life. We work when we want to and play when we want to."
Mr Cohen had no tips for new players, not wanting to give away his secrets.
His only advice was to "get a lucky coin and have fun.
"Don't take it too seriously.
"It's not the end of the world if things don't work out".
