The Cotter family have called time on a 38-year family business and are selling the Lake Hawea Holiday Park business while the Taylor family is selling the Waitaki Mouth Holiday Park near Glenavy.
Dick and Margie Cotter developed the Lake Hawea camping ground from Crown land previously managed by the Domain Board and now vested in the Queenstown Lakes District Council.
Mr and Mrs Cotter first asked permission to establish the camping ground in 1964, but it was not until 1968 that tenders were called.
Mr Cotter was subsequently successful in obtaining the 33-year lease, and rights of renewal, and the camp officially opened for a fee on December 25, 1970.
Over the years, the family has continued to develop the camping ground into the present park-like facility, planting trees, building flats and units, installing power and water infrastructure and creating caravan and tent sites.
Mrs Cotter died in 2005.
Mr Cotter is retired.
Their son Jimmy and his wife Rebecca are the present camp managers.
Tenders close with Bayleys agent Yeverley McCarthy on November 28.
The Waitaki Mouth camp has been managed by Ruby Hutton (61) for the Taylor family since April 2005.
She has decided to move on and the park has been advertised for sale.
It had been in the back of her mind since last season and, when she returned recently from a holiday to Europe, her decision was reinforced.
Mrs Hutton, who had previously been involved with running the Lowburn Ferry Motor Camp - now under Lake Dunstan - in the 1980s, said she loved the lifestyle.
Southern Wide Real Estate sales consultant Barry Meikle said the sale signs had only just gone up and he had already fielded a few inquiries.
