Police throughout the South Island are still hunting for a man, believed to be armed, and considered dangerous, after a reported sighting in Central Otago came to nothing.
Michael John Hughes is wanted on several warrants to arrest, related to dishonesty offending throughout the South Island.
The 36-year-old is believed to be travelling in a stolen Subaru Impreza station wagon, with the registration number AUP920.
The known gang member has a distinctive tattoo of a fist on the right side of his face.
Detective Sergeant Chris Henderson confirmed police received a reported sighting of Hughes near Alexandra at the weekend, but police were unable to locate the identified person and could not be confident it was the wanted man.
Any sightings of Hughes should be reported immediately to 111, police said.
