A sponsor has now been found for this year's Waitaki sports awards.
Sport Waitaki's Grahame Johnston said Youthtown had decided to sponsor the event, which showed the huge level of support it was giving to the Waitaki community.
Youthtown's support was invaluable at both a community and national level.
"It's awesome to have their support and sponsorship of our premier sporting event," Mr Johnston said.
The list of nominees has been released for the 2009 sports awards, which will be presented at a dinner at the Oamaru Opera House on February 22.
This year, the guest speaker for the awards ceremony will be world ironman champion Cory Hutchings.
The final nominations for the awards are:Youthtown Waitaki Sportsperson of the Year overall award: Selected from all section winners (except sports organisation of the year).
Hi Flo Plumbing Ltd Sportsman of the Year: Blair Grant (athletics), Sam Bond (snooker), Iran Zachary (swimming), Mitchell Greaney (football).
Placemakers Sportswoman of the Year: Megan McPhail (athletics), Lanah Craik (lawn bowls), Reubyn Bisschops (triathlon/multisports), Johanna Kearney (rowing).
Wilsons Sports Junior Sportsperson of the Year: Chris Ware (cricket), Courtney Duncan (motocross) Anna Eade (kayaking), Dylan Kennett (cycling).
Sport Waitaki Local Organisation Award (for the organisation with a strategic plan that has achieved the most towards their goals in 2009): North Otago Netball Centre, North Otago Junior Tennis, North Otago Basketball Association, North Otago Hockey Association.
Other awards are the Network Waitaki Ltd Coach of the Year, North Otago Motor Group Team of the Year, Oamaru Liquorland Athlete with a Disability Award, and the Sutherlands Menswear Services to Sport Award.
