Trapped by high waters, a 24-year-old woman will spend a second night out in the Barrier Range, to the west of Lake  Ohau.

Police sent Search and Rescue personnel out to find the woman on Thursday and at 10pm she was located safe and well, but trapped by high waters.

A police spokeswoman said the woman was at the South Temple Hut. She had plenty of food and warm clothing and was believed to be safe.

The spokeswoman said two SAR members were with the woman, but the party was believed to be waiting for waterways to be safe to cross before they returned.

The woman would be trapped by the Temple Stream South Branch, as well as, potentially, sidestreams and the North Branch.

The spokeswoman could not say where the woman was from and said no information had been released from the people involved in the rescue since 9.30am yesterday morning.
