Vaccine rollout chain established

District nurse Jojan McCleod administers emergency department team leader and registered nurse Lot Mordeno’s first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at Oamaru Hospital yesterday.

Mrs Mordeno was one of 96 high-risk frontline workers who received a vaccination yesterday, marking the start of the Waitaki district rollout.

Nursing director Yvonne Thomas said with the help of the Southern District Health Board, the hospital held a "wet run" of the rollout on Tuesday, vaccinating 12 health workers.

Ms Thomas said things were already running smoother.

By that rate, the process would be even smoother for Mrs Mordeno, who would be administering vaccines for other healthcare workers from today.
