Two remain in hospital after single-vehicle crash

Two Oamaru men remained in hospital yesterday after a crash in Weston-Ngapara Rd early on Saturday.

It happened just before 4am near the Five Forks turn-off.

‘‘The vehicle has left the road and rolled several times,'' Sergeant Blair Wilkinson, of Oamaru, said.

The two occupants of the vehicle, aged 25, suffered serious injuries.

One was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital and the other was taken by St John ambulance to Oamaru Hospital before being transferred to Dunedin.

It is understood they both remained in Dunedin Hospital yesterday being treated for their injuries.

One of the men, who were trapped in the vehicle, was able to call his partner and she alerted emergency services.

It took police an hour to find the exact location of the crash.‘‘It was a reasonable distance from the road,'' Sgt Wilkinson said.

‘‘There was some confusion of what road they were on, so it involved a bit of a search in tracking them down.''

It was too early to comment on the cause of the single-vehicle crash, he said.

Inquiries continue.
