A St John spokesman said at least one person was taken to Oamaru Hospital after a car crashed on State Highway 8 on the Omarama side of the Lindis Pass just before 1pm yesterday.
Volunteer fire brigade units from Omarama, Otematata and Cromwell attended.
The spokesman said the car appeared to have slid on ice.
He said two ambulances were sent to the scene.
The front-seat passenger was injured after airbags were deployed in the crash, leaving the person with a fat lip.
It is understood four people were treated as a result of the crash.
Earlier, at 2.30am, a truck slid on black ice and rolled into a ditch just north of Omarama on SH8, leaving the truck driver with minor injuries and forcing a partial road closure.
The road was cleared about 12.30pm and restored to two lanes after a crane was called in to right the truck, which ended up on its side.
Big Chill Distribution, which owned the truck, could not be reached for comment.
