Two boys, aged 9 and 10, were injured when their motocross bikes were involved in a collision at a training day on a farm in Settlement Rd, near Duntroon, yesterday morning.
Sergeant Wayne Brew, of Oamaru, said it was initially thought the accident was serious, with emergency services being called from as far away as Oamaru and Otematata.
The two boys were taken to Oamaru Hospital about 10.30am - the 9-year-old with a broken collarbone and a 10-year-old suffering from back and neck pains.
Sgt Brew said the collision was "an unfortunate mishap" at a day aimed at training young motocross riders for coming events.
The training included an emphasis on safety.
