Omarama residents are courting sporting types with plans to build a new outdoor tennis and netball complex.
Omarama Residents' Association chairman Ross Gold said the group had raised $10,000 with the aim of raising about $50,000 to build three tennis courts, netball courts and a fives wall next to the Waitaki Valley town's community centre.
Mr Gold said with one ageing tennis court and no netball court, the town could be offering locals and summer visitors more.
``I think they will be [well used], especially in the summertime,'' he said.
Although the town did not have a netball team now, courts would give the area the opportunity to field a team.
He said the association had received a ``tentative'' estimate of $180,000 for the three tennis courts and believed if it raised $50,000, it would be in a good position to seek external funding.
A Waitaki District Council spokeswoman confirmed the council was aware of the group's plans, but said it was a community project.
Mr Gold said the project would complement the town's $750,000 community centre, which opened in October 2013.
``We believe this is a further extension to that and that it would be very good for the district.''
