Teams ready for debate

John Key and his Cabinet ministers might not be coming, but the Hampden Community Energy Society has finally managed to get a team to take the affirmative for a celebrity challenge debate next week.

The moot is "promoting continuous economic growth per se is a sound national strategy to secure our children's future" and, taking the negative, is the Hampden Knights team of journalist and economics commentator Rod Oram, Canterbury University associate professor Susan Krumdieck and media personality and "sustainability experimenter" Te Radar.

Otago regional councillor and former Act New Zealand MP Gerry Eckhoff, former Federated Farmers national board member Bruce McNab, and economist Associate Prof Paul Hansen, of the University of Otago, have agreed to take the affirmative.

The event will be held in the Hampden Hall next Saturday.
