The suspected arson of a fishing boat at Hampden is being investigated by Oamaru police, who have two ''lines of inquiry'' to follow up, Senior Constable Anton Perham said earlier this week.
The fire happened about 2am on Monday, when petrol was poured around the exterior of the jet-boat, which was usually used around the South Island for eel fishing.
While the boat was ''relatively undamaged'', about $15,000 worth of nets, floats and other fishing equipment hanging around the craft was destroyed.
No reason for the arson, investigated by the Fire Service, was evident, he said.
