A fire investigator will today examine the scene of a suspected arson in Oamaru last night.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand southern communications shift manager Andrew Norris said emergency services were called to a ''suspicious'' garage fire in the northern part of Oamaru at 9.45pm.
The garage was still "well-involved" in flame shortly after 10pm.
No-one was injured, and the house on the property was not damaged, Mr Norris said.
Oamaru station officer Carl Banks this morning said the garage was "totalled" but fortunately there were no vehicles inside.
A hedge beside the garage and a nearby power pole had also started to burn.
Two crews from Oamaru and one from Weston attended, as well as police. Crews remained at the scene until 11pm.
A fire investigator was heading to the scene this morning.
A Fenz spokeswoman said this morning it was a suspected arson.
