More than 200 entries of North Otago's best autumn blooms filled Oamaru's Scottish Hall yesterday.

The North Otago Horticultural Society's annual autumn flower show displayed what local gardeners could produce in drought conditions.

Society committee member Ann Ormandy said the colour of the blooms was vibrant and fruit and vegetables on show had good form.

"I think it's an extremely good selection.

"It's been such a beautiful season.''

She said the show was about celebrating autumn.

This year's entrants had the advantage of warm weather and that had gone a long way in producing the depth of colour that was on show, she said.

The top prize, champion vase, went to Lesley McIntosh for her Edith Cavell chrysanthemum.
