A Subaru unlawfully taken from an Oamaru property was found just 400m from where it was reported stolen, police say.
A police spokeswoman said a Subaru Forrester reported stolen from a Reed St address about 7am yesterday was located two hours later in Nen St.
The vehicle's ignition barrel was damaged.
The car was allegedly taken between 6pm and 7am.
Police inquiries were continuing.
