It was thought the statue of St Dominic had been damaged beyond repair, but Mr Anderson, who used to own Crombie Monumentalist, used his skills to restore it.
Now, it has a new home at St Kevins College, where it will be safer.
Yesterday, Mr Anderson, his son-in-law Darren Liddicoat, now owner of Crombie Monumentalist, who also helped with the repairs, and Dooley's Masonry, lowered the statue on to its new plinth in a sheltered lawn and garden next to the college's auditorium.
The new home is appropriate - when Teschemakers closed, pupils went to St Thomas in Oamaru, which then amalgamated with St Kevins.
The statue was removed in January after it had been vandalised, and taken to Crombie's yard in Oamaru.
When he saw it, Mr Anderson was "pretty sure" he could fix the damage.
The statue's head, left hand and fingers on the right hand had been cut off.
Some of the pieces were smashed or missing.
Mr Anderson estimated he spent between 40 and 50 hours repairing the statue, donating his time and materials.
He refastened the head, repaired its nose and lips.
He refastened the left hand but had to make some of the fingers that were missing from both hands.
While the repairs were obvious close-up if you knew where to look, Mr Anderson said once the statue had weathered a bit, they would not be noticeable.
It was the first time he had worked on a marble statue.
"I'm quite happy with the result, especially when you look at what I had to start with," he said.
At the time of the vandalism, Oamaru police, who described the statue as "priceless", thought it had been damaged beyond repair.
The statue, under trees opposite the main building at Teschemakers, was installed new in 1939.
St Dominic was the founder of the Dominican order, which ran Teschemakers.
Dominican sister Mary Horn, who worked at the college and is an artist, described the statue as "a very beautiful piece of art".
It was very special to former pupils and to the Dominican sisters, she said.
A 20-year-old and two 19-year-olds will face charges in the Oamaru District Court in relation to the incident after being apprehended earlier this week.
