Even steampunked belly dancers made an appearance at a steampunk street party in Oamaru on Saturday night.

The event, which was held in lower Thames St, had as a backdrop the 19-tonne diesel locomotive that has been turned into a steampunk creation and has attracted a huge amount of interest from passers-by, drawing people into the "Steampunk: Tomorrow As It Used to Be" exhibition at the Forrester Gallery.

There was music and dance, along with the ubiquitous penny-farthings weaving around the streets, and large amounts of steam.

The steampunk exhibition runs at the gallery until December 5.
