The historic street will be used for filming this week for an installation dedicated to the Anzacs, to go on display at the new Sir John Monash Media Centre, near Villers-Bretonneux, in France.
Waitaki Deputy Mayor Melanie Tavendale, who watched some of the action yesterday morning, said it was ``quite cool'' sitting in a Harbour St cafe watching Anzac troops marching along the street, past the window. The scene was smoky and there were barbed wire barricades at the north end of the street.
``It felt very authentic,'' she said.
``Not that I've ever been to a war zone before.''
A public notice in the Oamaru Mail last Friday noted Harbour St businesses would remain open. It said there were ``several battle scenes to be filmed during this time in the general area''.
No-one from the production would speak to the Otago Daily Times yesterday.
