Sky's the limit

Kite-lovers (from left) Tony Travaglia, of Oamaru, Carl Gillard, of Dunedin, and Jim Nicholls, of Christchurch, met at Oamaru's Awamoa Park yesterday for a spot of recreational flying.

Oamaru residents and motorists driving through the town were treated to a spectacular array of huge, colourful kites belonging to the three men.

The kites always attracted children and families, and still fascinated their owners after many years.

''You're never too old to fly a kite,'' Mr Gillard said.

They would be flying again today if conditions were suitable and there were no conflicting uses for the park.
