Six people seek two board spots

Six people, including two directors standing down by rotation, have offered themselves as directors of Network Waitaki, the community-owned North Otago electricity distribution company.

Board chairwoman Clare Kearney and director Derek Atkinson have both retired by rotation but are seeking re-election to the two vacancies.

Four other people have expressed an interest in becoming a director.

Network Waitaki, which distributes electricity from Shag Point to the Waitaki River and inland to the Hakataramea Valley and Ohau, is owned by consumers through the Waitaki Power Trust.

The trust appoints the directors to the company's board.

Trust chairwoman Helen Brookes said those seeking appointment were all local, or had local backgrounds if they lived outside the area.

They would be assessed by the trust and the appointments announced at its public annual meeting in July.

Two directors have to stand down each year, but can seek to be reappointed. There are six directors on the Network Waitaki board.

The other directors are Tony Wood, John Walker, David Ruddenklau and Chris Dennison.
