Some Broadway classics will be presented in Oamaru next month.

Musical Theatre Oamaru’s newest show, Broadway on Thames, will feature a collection of Broadway songs performed by local talents.

Co-production managers and directors Trish Hurley and Hannah Cruickshank said the 19-person show would be entertaining for all.

Mrs Cruickshank said it would include Broadway musical favourites as well as some songs people had not heard before.

The cast was a mix of talented men, women and juniors, from as young as 9.

"Some of the kids just have the most angelic voices," Mrs Cruickshank said.

Her highlight was Ex-Wives from Six the Musical, and the group numbers.

Mrs Hurley said people should expect to be entertained.

"Because there is such a variety, I think there’s going to be something for everyone."

Her favourite part of the show was watching the performers progress.

It was Mrs Cruickshank and Mrs Hurley’s first time in production roles.

"Just because we’ve never done it, doesn’t mean it isn’t going to be excellent," Mrs Hurley said.

Musical Theatre Oamaru president Melissa Yockney said she wanted to introduce the pair to behind-the scenes work and help them develop new skills.

The show had the best singers and would provide the grandeur people expected from the organisation’s shows, she said.

"They won’t be disappointed."

Tickets for the two-hour long show would cost $20, which was a way of saying "thank you" for the support of last year’s shows.

The two performances will be held at the Oamaru Opera House, on March 2.

Solo performance would make up the majority of the show with some duets and group performances.

Musical Theatre Oamaru has been nominated for a total of 18 awards for School of Rock and That Bloody Woman at the Otago Southland Theatre Awards this weekend.
